There is intense debate in the golf community regarding the use of golf GPS and rangefinder devices in competitive tournaments. While quite a few golfers (pros and hobbyists alike) argue that such devices have no place on the golf course, the authorities seem to be open-minded towards these technological novelties. It seems that in a very short period of time, people will be looking for the best golf rangefinder and GPS models to be competitive, as they are looking for the best golf clubs now.
The first signs indicating that such devices will soon be used competitively are already there. The US Golf Association already sanctioned them and left the final decision to the local authorities. This means that as long as the authorities in charge of a specific tournament allow it, these devices can be used by all players. So, if you are one of those who are firmly against these devices, try to keep an open mind since you will be seeing them a lot more in the near future.
